Fish bowls make wonderful centerpieces.

Glass fish bowls make wonderful centerpieces for wedding receptions. They are short, leaving the guests able to see across the table. You can fill them with fish if you like, or put virtually anything else in them that keeps with your theme and decorations. The fish bowls can be purchased inexpensively in bulk and can be decorated and filled yourself; this will save a lot of money on a florist or decorator.

  • Sand

Instructions

    • 1

Fill the fish bowl with clean, non chlorinated water. Slip one fish into the water a few minutes before the reception is set to begin. Designate one person to take care of this for you. Do not put more than one fish in each bowl; some fish do not like other fish, and they may begin to fight.

    • 2

Put sand in the fish bowl until it is about half-filled. Place shells, star fish, sand dollars or small pieces of driftwood in the bowl. You can place them just on top of the sand, or push them in a bit. This centerpiece works well for a beach-themed wedding.

    • 3

Fill the fish bowl with water and float a few flowers on top. Stick the stems of the flowers into a small piece of floral foam before placing them into the water; the foam assists in the floating.

    • 4

Fill the fish bowl with water about half way. Place three floating candles on top of the water. Light the candles just before the reception begins so they last the entire time.

Tips & Warnings

  • Place flowers around the base of the fish bowl for decoration if you wish. You could also wrap a ribbon around the base or just under the rim.

  • Send the fish home with guests if you don't want to keep them.
