How to Craft a Washcloth Duck
A washcloth duck is an adorable craft project that makes bath time more fun for babies and children. This simple craft also works well as a gift for a baby shower or young child's birthday. A washcloth duck is a safe bath toy because it is made out of soft materials that are not harmful when played with. Multiple washcloth ducks can be made in different sizes to create a family of ducks that your child will definitely enjoy.
Things You'll Need
- Washcloth duck template
- Washcloth (white or yellow)
- Scissors
- Bath sponge
- Sewing machine
- Needle
- Thread (white, yellow, orange, black)
- Orange felt

Print out a template for a duck from your computer. You can use any image of a duck from the side. Choose different sizes based upon whether you are creating adult or baby ducks. Place the template on a white or colored washcloth and cut out two identical duck pieces. Cut out two oval duck wings. Cut pieces of a bath sponge in the same size as the body to insert into the sewn washcloth pieces. This will give the duck a larger size and more functionality.

Sew the two washcloth body pieces together with a sewing machine or by hand, wrong sides together. Leave the bottom of the body open and turn the pieces right-side out.

Insert the sponge body into the bottom of the washcloth body. Hand sew the bottom closed.

Hand sew the wings onto the body. Use black or brown thread the make eyes by sewing a few stitches over each other on the face of the duck. Cut out an orange or yellow felt oval for the beak. Sew securely to the front of the face with orange or yellow thread. Cut off any loose threads that remain.

Tips & Warnings
Experiment with different colored washcloths for an interesting twist on the project. Use a blue washcloth for a baby boy or a bright orange washcloth for a baby girl.
