Change the lighting. Nothing hides an ugly hall better than dim lighting. String up some small white lights from the ceiling with fishing wire. You may also wish to line a wall or two with white rope lights along the floor. Use candles on the tables for a soft, romantic lighting effect. If the shower is during the day, do your best to cover any windows so that your alternate lighting is as effective as possible.

Use lots of tulle to add a romantic and dreamy effect to even the ugliest of rooms. It gives a light, airy feeling and is great for hiding or disguising ugly fixtures, walls and doorways. Make tulle bows and use them on chairs of honored guests to tie the look together. Tulle is available at craft stores and wedding supply stores in various colors.

Add some greenery. Small green plants and trees are great for covering up ugly walls and filling empty corners. You can either use real or artificial greenery. If you choose to use small plants, set them on plant stands of differing heights to add interest and variety. Ivy is versatile for decorating purposes since you can purchase it in garland or plant form. Ferns are another great option since they are bushy and cover lots of space.

The finishing touches will complete your distraction from the ugly hall. Choose a theme for the rest of the decorations. You can change the entire mood of the room with the color and style theme. The tablecloths, centerpieces, serving table decorations and dishes all help to draw the attention away from the hall. Use creative color combinations and dramatic centerpieces to distract from any remaining blemishes in the room.
