How to Attach a Lobster Claw to a Chain

How to Attach a Lobster Claw to a Chain thumbnail
Lobster claw clasps are commonly seen on bracelets and necklaces.

Lobster claw clasps are used on bracelet and necklaces to attach charms. They're also used to connect the two ends of a necklace chain together. The design of the lobster claw clasp makes it simpler to use than other types of clasps. They can be purchased at shops and stores that sell jewelry supplies. Lobster claw clasps are made of precious metals, such as gold, silver and platinum and in mixed metals for costume jewelry.

Instructions

    • 1

Open a jump ring using the needlenose or jewelry pliers. Move the open ends slightly apart sideways rather than pulling them apart.

    • 2

Insert one end of the jump ring into the loop opening on the end of the lobster claw clasp.

    • 3

Attach the same jump ring to the loop on the end of the chain. Squeeze the jump ring closed.

Tips & Warnings

  • Split rings can be used instead of jump rings. Make your own jump rings by cutting a section of a head pin and bending it into a circle or use a piece of wire.
