How to Measure Arms and Neck for a Shirt
Custom-made men's dress shirts offer a shirt tailored to your body, versus a mass-produced shirt made to a generic size. Custom-made shirts require specific measurements of a man's arm length, neck width, torso length and chest width. These measurements are important because you do not want to wear a shirt that is too tight and constricting around the neck and throughout the arms. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Enlist the help of an assistant who can reach your neck or shoulders when standing or using a step stool.
-
2
Place your hands on your hips. Keep your arms relaxed and in a 90-degree angle, with your elbows pointing away from your body. Have your assistant place the tip of the measuring tape at the center of your back, near the neck, and run it over your shoulder, around the elbow to the wrist.

3
Have your assistant wrap the measuring tape just above the base of your neck, placing two fingers between your skin and the measuring tape. Make sure the measurement is comfortable and not too tight.
-
4
Write down all measurements. Measurement requirements will vary depending upon the company you are purchasing shirts from. Generally, you will measure to the nearest 1/2 inch for neck sizes, such as 15 and 15 ½, and whole sizes for the sleeve length, such as 32 and 33. However, some custom shirt makers will create shirts with sleeves measured to the nearest 1/4 inch.
