How to Get Photographs to an Exhibit
A photographer's first exhibit can be the beginning of a long, satisfying career in the visual arts. Once all the hard work--processing, printing and mounting the photographs--is done, all you'll have to worry about is transporting the images to the location of the exhibit. Instead of simply tossing the frames in the passenger seat, treat your photographs with care by packaging them safely and using a vehicle with ample storage space.
Things You'll Need
- Bubble wrap
- Tape gun
- Cardboard boxes
- Packing peanuts
- Old newspaper
- Padded envelope
- Vehicle with storage space
- Rope (optional)
Instructions

1
Cover all frames with two layers of bubble wrap. Overlap the edges of the wrap and seal tightly using a tape gun.
-
2
Fill the bottom of several cardboard boxes, slightly larger than the size of your frames, with packing peanuts. Stack two to three frames inside the box.
-
-
3
Pad any empty spaces between the frames and the sides of the box with crumpled newspaper. Fill the top of the box to the brim with packing peanuts.
-
4
Close the top flaps of the box and seal tightly using a tape gun. Repeat the above steps for each batch of framed photographs.
-
5
Slide unframed prints, or photographs within a cardboard mat frame, into a padded envelope of the appropriate size. If you place more than one print into the envelope, place a sheet of tissue paper between them to prevent rubbing or scratching during transit.
-
6
Load the boxes and envelopes into a vehicle with plenty of storage space. Arrange the boxes so they won't move during transit, or tie them down using rope.
-
7
Drive to the location of the exhibit. Unload and unpack the photographs with caution...and you're ready to mount them for display.

Tips & Warnings
If you need to ship the photographs over a long distance, pack as specified above and bring the boxes and/or envelopes to your preferred parcel service. Mark the boxes as "Fragile" before turning them over to your shipping clerk.
