There are man ways to prepare fish -- grilling, pan frying, poaching and deep frying. One of the healthiest ways to prepare a fish dinner is to broil the fillets in your oven. Because broiling requires very little butter or oil for taste, broiled fish tends to be lower in fat and calories. With a few basic seasonings, an oven and a broiling pan, anyone can broil fish in a pan relatively easily. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • Fillet knife
  • Cutting board
  • Marinade brush
  • 1/4 cup oil or melted butter
  • Broiler pan
  • Salt
  • Black pepper
  • Paprika
  • Oven mitts
  • Fork
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

Instructions

      Cut fish into fillets using a fillet knife and cutting board. Decide how big you want each fillet to be before cutting up the fish. Use your knife to de-bone the fillets of any bones.

      Brush the top and bottom of each fillet with cooking oil or melted butter with a marinade brush. Sprinkle each side of the fillets with salt, black pepper or paprika.

      Pre-heat your oven broiler to 450 degrees. Place the broiling pan of fillets underneath the heating element approximately 3-5 inches away for thawed fish, or 6-8 inches away for frozen fillets. Broil thawed fish two or three minutes. Broil frozen fish four to six minutes.

      Remove the pan from oven using oven mitts. Cover both sides of each fillet with another brushing of cooking oil or butter and return fillets to broiling pan. Place the pan back into the oven in the same position and broil for two to five minutes to brown.

      Remove the fillets from the oven when you think they are done. Probe one or two of the fillets with a fork to test if they are done. If the fillets are flaky and browned, they are ready to eat. Sprinkle 1 teaspoon of lemon juice over each fillet, if you choose, and serve.
