How to Rotate Vector Images in Illustrator

Vector and raster graphics are the two main types of graphics. Raster, or bitmap, images create images with numerous, static pixels. Vector graphics contain mathematical formulas to create lines and shapes, which makes them easy to resize, rotate and change without losing image quality. Adobe Illustrator works with either type but excels at creating and manipulating vector images. To rotate these images, use Illustrator's dedicated "Rotate Tool," which allows you to visually rotate a vector image.

Instructions

    • 1

Open your project in Adobe Illustrator.

    • 2

Press the "V" key to choose the Selection Tool.

    • 3

Click the vector object you wish to rotate to select it. Click and drag to select multiple objects.

    • 4

Press the "R" tool to choose the Rotate Tool.

    • 5

Double-click anywhere on the screen to select an anchor point, around which the image will rotate. If you don't select a point, the image rotates about its center.

    • 6

Click anywhere on the screen and move your mouse around the image to rotate it. To restrict the movement to increments of 45 degrees, hold the "Shift" key while moving your mouse.
