How to Get to Byron in Pearl
In "Pokemon Pearl," Byron is the Gym Leader of Canalave City. Byron specializes in Steel-type Pokemon, an elemental family that has excellent physical defenses. If you can navigate to the fourth floor of the Canalave Gym and defeat Byron, he will add the Mine Badge to your growing collection of badges. Byron will also give you Technical Machine 91, which contains Flash Cannon, a powerful Steel-type attack.

Fly to Jubilife City in western Sinnoh after you've collected five Gym Badges.

Travel west onto Route 218.

Walk across the route's two bridges.

Use the Surf ability to swim westward across the northern section of the route.

Make landfall on the west section of the route and enter the gate to Canalave City.

Walk to the Canalave Gym in the western section of the city.

Navigate the Canalave Gym using the series of elevators around the building. While most of the elevators are marked with a yellow square, the elevator that will take you to Byron is marked with a red square. As you explore the building, you will encounter numerous trainers -- most of which use Steel-type Pokemon around Level 30. Steel is weak to Fighting-, Fire- and Ground-type attacks, so use these elements to knock out your opponents.

Ride the red elevator to the fourth level of the Canalave Gym and engage Byron. Byron will use a Level 36 Bronzor, Level 36 Steelix and Level 39 Bastiodon. Bronzor and Steelix will fall quickly to Fire-type attacks. Bastiodon is a Rock- and Steel-type with heavy defenses, so Fire-type attacks don't cause much damage. Instead, rely on Fighting- and Ground-type attacks.
