How to Make Boxes for Three Tier Wedding Cakes
Cake boxes are often the crowning finish to a cake, as they are the first part of the cake that is seen. From decorated boxes to simple containers, the structure itself is not only decorative, but protective for the cake itself. This is especially integral for tiered cakes, which need protection to keep from being knocked or hit by outside objects. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Measure the three tier cake, the length, width and height. Add 4 inches to the width to allow for your hands to be able to reach in and pull out the cake. Add 1 inch to the height to ensure the lid will not touch the top of the cake.
-
2
Place the card stock down on the work surface, decorative side facing downward. Draw a square in the bottom that reflects the measured width and length of the cake.
-
-
3
Draw four squares, resulting from each side of the middle square, that extend out at the same length as the measured height. These will be the sides of the box.
-
4
Draw a straight line 1-inch from each side of two opposite drawn sides of the box. Begin them 1 inch from the top of the rectangle and end them 1 inch before the rectangle joins the middle box. Draw a connecting diagonal line between the line and the bottom of the rectangle. Repeat this with the top. These will be the tabs that hold the box together.
-
5
Cut out the drawn box. Create indented lines where folds occur by pressing the ruler along the lines. This will aid in folding.
-
6
Fold all four sides upward until they are perpendicular with the bottom of the box. Ensure the tabs fold inward. Place glue on the tabs and set them along the inside of the side of the box nearest to them, lining up the edges of the two sides so they are clean. Repeat this along all the sides of the box.
-
7
Allow the box to dry. Create another small box using Steps 1 to 6 with 1/4-inch added to the width and length of the bottom, and the sides only 3 inches long. This will be the lid. Glue it and allow it to set as well. Fit it on to the box when finished and use as desired.

Tips & Warnings
For a sturdier box, use heavier cardboard. Attach the decorative paper to the box when finished using a spray adhesive and smoothing it with your hands.
