How to Ask for a Part-Time Interview

When applying for a job, it's important to be upfront and honest about how often you are available to work. If you are looking for a part-time job, then say so when applying. In most cases, your application is your request for an interview, so make sure that it accurately reflects your education, work history and employment objectives. In other cases, you may have to wait until you are interviewed to ask for a part-time position.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill out the job application in neat, readable handwriting. Indicate on the application that you are interested in a part-time position.

    • 2

Find out about the company before your interview. Even if you can only find out a little about how the company started, showing your interest in the company shows that you care about getting the job.

    • 3

Arrive at your interview on time and dressed like a professional, even if the job for which you are applying will not require formal dress.

    • 4

Speak clearly and be friendly during the interview. Shake your interviewer's hand and continually make eye contact with him. If it helps, have a friend help you practice interviewing beforehand.

    • 5

Be honest about your work availability, but show flexibility. It's much better during an interview to say you are available 20 hours a week rather than giving a list of specific days and times for which you are unavailable and why. Show that no matter what, you are willing to be flexible in different areas of your life.

    • 6

Send a thank you note after your interview. This is not only good etiquette, but an excellent way to keep you in the mind of interviewer, especially if there are a lot of people applying for the job.
