Instructions

    • 1

Measure the area of the garage wall you want to carpet.

    • 2

Measure and cut a piece of carpeting to fit the wall.

    • 3

Hold the carpeting against the wall, and make any cuts necessary to fit around venting or other wall obstructions. It is often sufficient to make a straight cut from the nearest edge to the obstruction, but for slightly wider obstacles, make a second perpendicular cut to allow the carpet to fold back, allowing the carpet to lie flat around the pipe.

    • 4

Insert a staple into the top of the carpeting at one corner. Work your way across the top of the carpet, pulling the carpet taught as you go. Staple every 3 inches. Staple down one side of the carpeting and then the other side. You can expand to stapling every 6 inches on the vertical edges. On wider pieces of carpeting, staple down the center of the carpeting to hold it flush against the wall and spread the weight of the carpeting across many staples.

    • 5

Staple around any obstructions to keep the carpet from shifting.

Tips & Warnings

  • If your garage walls aren't finished, you can still install carpeting by attaching it to the wall studs. In this case, staple down each stud because the weight won't be as evenly distributed.

  • If you have to work around water pipes that frequently have condensation on the outside of them, cut a larger hole so that the carpet isn't in direct contact with the pipes.
