How to Expand a Saree While Ironing

A properly ironed sari looks elegant and sophisticated.

If you're not used to ironing saris, your first time can be very difficult. A sari is generally 5 to 6 yards of fabric in length so expanding and holding the cloth is confusing at times. But with a few simple tricks for how to lay your sari on your ironing stand, you can do it quickly and efficiently.

Things You'll Need

• Iron
• Ironing stand

Instructions

1. Unhook your sari. Hold the sari at the top of the pleats towards you with your left hand. Extend your right hand down towards the right where the second hook is. Let the left side of the sari drop down.

2. Place the right side of the sari onto the ironing stand. Iron the cloth carefully and slowly. Start at the top and work your way down. When you get to the pleats, iron each one separately, making crisp creases in the fabric. Once you're down with all the pleats, iron over them together.

3. Slide the ironed part of the sari off of the ironing stand and iron the left part of the sari. Once you're done, carefully fold it vertically to hang it in your closet or put it on right then.
