How to Make a Bamm-Bamm Costume

Bamm-Bamm gets his name from the noise he makes banging his huge caveman club.

Bamm-Bamm is a character from the Flintstones TV series and movies. A tiny stone-age baby with super human strength, he brandishes a huge caveman's club that he bangs incessantly. Kids and adults alike will enjoy dressing as this cute little caveman, and best of all, the costume is inexpensive and simple to put together. However, it may be a little chilly to wear trick-or-treating.

Things You'll Need

• Orange fabric or felt
• Scissors
• Measuring tape
• Needle and orange thread
• Safety pins
• Dressmaker's elastic
• Black and white felt
• Fabric glue
• Brown fake fur
• Black marker pen
• Orange baseball cap
• White pom-pom
• White wig
• Newspaper
• Masking tape
• White craft glue
• Brown acrylic craft paint

Instructions

1. Make a short loincloth-style skirt from orange fabric or felt. Cut a simple skirt shape from two pieces of fabric and sew up the side seams. Use a pair of elastic-waist shorts or an elastic-waist skirt as a cutting guide. Turn the fabric over 1-inch at the top and stitch it around to make a hem, leaving an opening to insert a piece of elastic slightly shorter than your waist measurement. Place a safety pin in the end of the elastic and thread it through. Cut triangles of black felt to look like animal skin markings and glue them to the loincloth with fabric glue. Cut the hem of the skirt in jagged points. Wear shorts underneath.

2. Make a chest strap from brown fake fur. Measure from the left hip at the front, across the chest and over the right shoulder, and back down to the left hip on the back. Cut a 4-inch wide strip of fake fur to that length. Glue felt to the back of the fake fur so it does not scratch. Pin the fake fur strap to the waist of the loincloth-skirt.

3. Cut an 8-inch long bone shape from white felt. Outline it and add details in black marker pen. Make two slits in the front of the fake-fur strap, just above the waistline of the skirt. Insert the bone through the slits so that it sits horizontally above the waistline.

4. Wear an orange baseball cap, or cover the panels of a cap with orange felt. Glue on triangles of black felt. Add a white pom-pom on the top. Bamm-Bamm has a shock of white hair. Wear a wig if you want an authentic look.

5. Make a club by scrunching newspaper into a club shape and taping it in position with masking tape. Cover it with several layers of newspaper strips dipped in diluted white craft glue. When it is dry, paint it with brown acrylic craft paint.

Tips & Warnings

• As an alternative to sewing a skirt, tie a length of fabric around your hips, like a short sarong. Cut the hem in jagged points.
