1
Cut three pieces of cotton rope 9 to 10 inches long. Using the embroidery thread tie the three pieces of rope together about 1 inch from the top. Cut to secure the end. Wrap thread around several times.
-
2
Braid the three pieces of rope for 6 inches. Tie the three pieces of rope at the bottom with the embroidery thread using one round. Do not cut the thread yet. Take the right piece of rope and extend to the left making a loop underneath the end of the rope and hold in position.

3
Wrap the embroidery thread around the end of the piece of rope you are holding to secure the loop. Continue to wrap the thread around several times layering each round underneath each other so that it covers about 1/4 of the end of the rope, then cut the thread. This will secure both the loop and the bottom end.

Now bring the top end around and feed through the loop and cut off the unbraided pieces. The embroidery thread wrapping should hold the top end inside the loop as it will create ridges to cradle the bottom of the loop. The braided portion of the ring will also provide the same ridged cradling as you tighten the ring around the napkin.
