How to Create Text Character Hugs for Facebook
Virtual hugs are some of the oldest and most popular text-based emoticons around. Even today when smileys have evolved into quite colorful and sometimes animated graphics, text-based emoticons are still useful. Facebook does not permit any kind of rich text formatting in messages or status posts. To express your feelings for someone, you can use text-based characters to do so.

Tips & Warnings
You can also use the text hug characters in Facebook chat. However, since there is no hug emoticon registered on Facebook, the system will not turn it into a graphic emoticon like it would a standard smiley face.
