Find the testing knob on the front of the Gentex GX-100-1A smoke detector.

Turn the knob counterclockwise from the "Normal" position to the "Test 1" position; the alarm should sound within six seconds. Return the knob to the "Normal" position. Press and hold the "Reset" button on the system control panel for five seconds.

Rotate the testing knob clockwise to the "Test 2" position to test the smoke detector for high sensitivity; the alarm should not sound. Clean any dust or grime from the detector if it sounds while the knob is in the "Test 2" position.

Turn the knob counterclockwise to return it to the "Normal" position.

Test the Gentex smoke detector every six months.
Return the GX-100-1A smoke detector to Gentex Corp. for service if it the alarm continues to sound while the knob is in the "Test 2" position after being cleaned.
