      Find the testing knob on the front of the Gentex GX-100-1A smoke detector.

      Turn the knob counterclockwise from the "Normal" position to the "Test 1" position; the alarm should sound within six seconds. Return the knob to the "Normal" position. Press and hold the "Reset" button on the system control panel for five seconds.
