How to Make an Owl Backpack
Transform a plush owl toy into a backpack for a little owl-lover to carry around his favorite treasures or to carry his books to school. You can use a new stuffed animal from a toy or discount store for the project or turn his favorite plush toy into the backpack so he can bring it with him everywhere. The backpack is easy to make and you can even have an older child help to make the backpack by removing stuffing and attaching the new zipper and straps.
Things You'll Need

1
Lay the plush owl toy on your work surface with the back of the toy facing upward.
-
2
Open the back seam of the owl with a seam ripper or pick apart the stitches with a thin pair of scissors. Open the seam from the bottom of the owl to the neck. Remove the inner stuffing from the body cavity of the owl. Leave the stuffing in the head.

3
Cut a round piece of fabric, large enough to cover the inner neck opening. Pin the fabric to the inside of the owl and sew it in place with a straight stitch to keep the stuffing in the owl's head from falling out.
-
4
Open the zipper. Pin one side of the zipper to one side of the opened seam, with the zipper teeth facing outward. Pin the other side of the zipper to the other side of the opened seam. Sew along the fabric zipper edge with a straight stitch to join the zipper to the backpack.

5
Cut two pieces of canvas strapping. Make each piece about 18 inches long. Pin one end of each piece to the bottom, left and right side of the owl backpack. Pin the other ends to the left and right side of the back of the neck. Sew the canvas ends to the backpack with a straight stitch.
