Obtain chair measurements. Be sure to measure the height and width of the chair. If you are renting the chairs, the rental company should be able to provide you with the measurements.

Purchase fabric. Select your chair cover fabric based on the color and theme of your wedding. If your wedding will be traditionally formal, tulle, silk and velvet are suitable choices. If you are planning an outdoor wedding reception, consider chintz or calico for a carefree texture.

Purchase enough fabric for your chair measurements. Consider doubling the chair height so you can create an elegant drape over the chair. A rule of thumb is to purchase one yard of fabric and ribbon for each chair; however, the amount of fabric needed will depend on chair size.
