How to Get Sponsors for Camp Funding

How to Get Sponsors for Camp Funding thumbnail
Camp sponsors need to be family oriented so as not to scare away wary parents and detract from business.

When funding a camp, it is important to learn how to get the proper sponsors. Not only do you need to find sponsors who can cover the costs of running the camp, pay the counselors and hopefully turn a profit, but you also want their message to mesh with the environment your camp is hoping to promote. The right sponsors can hugely improve a camp, but the wrong sponsors can really change the experience in a negative way for campers.

Instructions

    • 1

Understand your environment. If it is a baseball camp, consider targeting organizations tied to sports. If it is a general summer camp, try general summer things, such as hot dog companies and outdoor equipment companies.

    • 2

Grow affiliations with local businesses. The initial thought is to go to large businesses for sponsorships, but local businesses will often be willing to support a local camp.

    • 3

Take out ads in local and larger newspapers, on Internet sites and anything else depending on your funds. Exposure will always increase the number of sponsors you will have offered.

    • 4

Accepting anyone is a bad idea. Although you want sponsors, certain things won't be appropriate for your camp. If it is a camp for children, don't let a cigarette company or a gun shop sponsor the camp.

    • 5

Get in contact with the sponsor. A phone call is probably the best way to contact a potential sponsor, as it isn't as impersonal as a letter or email. Volunteer to send information on your camp and try to get them to sign on as a sponsor.

    • 6

Convince them to sponsor your camp. Describe what your camp tries to achieve, and the benefits of the camp to both the children's lives and the community as a whole. You can relate to them information about advertising their products as well, and how camp sponsors can be promoted through the camp.

After you have found a sponsor that is willing to sign on, determine how much you want them involved. It is a good idea to have several sponsors, so that you never have to ask for a large amount of money or effort.
