How to Finger Crochet a Headband
Finger crocheting is a simple and portable technique that allows you to make projects with yarn using your index finger rather than a crochet hook. The fabric that results from finger crocheting yarn is similar to an i-cord (a slender, knitted tube). A finger-crocheted headband is a perfect project for learning how to finger crochet because it gets long quickly and you can make it from any weight of yarn you want to use. Use up leftover yarn and crochet a cord long enough to wrap around your head snugly.
Instructions

1
Tie a slipknot around your index finger and then wrap the yarn around your finger once.
-
2
Pull the slipknot over the upper loop and off your index finger toward the back of your hand. You should now have one loop left on your index finger.

3
Wrap the working yarn around your index finger one time and pull the lower loop over the upper loop and off your index finger.

4
Continue this process until the crocheted cord is long enough to wrap around your head. Check the length of the cord often while crocheting by pulling the cord taut and wrapping it around your head in the position you want it to sit.

Cut the yarn and draw the tail through the last loop on your finger. Tie the beginning and ending tails together in a double knot.

Tips & Warnings
Crochet your headband twice as long as the circumference of your head and wear the headband doubled if you want a more substantial headband. Or, use heavy worsted or bulky-weight yarn for a thicker band. Lighter-weight yarns will create a skinny headband.
Use two colors of yarn held together to make a colorful headband, or customize your headband with beads or other embellishments. To incorporate beads, add the beads to the yarn before you begin crocheting, and slide them into place as you crochet.
