Whether you want to make a toast at a wedding party, graduation party or 50th anniversary dinner, a few simple words can add a nice touch to any social gathering. A toast is made to honor another person. If you have to propose a toast, think about what you will say beforehand. Keep your toast short, and don't ramble on about things that are irrelevant.       Stand up to get everyone's attention. Holding your glass in front of you, introduce yourself. Tell everyone your name and why everyone has gathered. Keep your introduction less than 90 seconds, so you can put more focus on the person you are toasting.

      Make eye contact with the person you are toasting. Say a hope or wish for the person you are honoring. For example, if you are honoring someone for graduating college, say, "May life after college bring you happiness. May you accomplish all your goals."

      Ask everyone in the room to raise their glasses. Name the person you are honoring after you say, "To.." After everyone repeats the toast, clink your glasses together.
