How to Keep Strawberries in the Freezer
Strawberry growing season is short. Take advantage of the fresh berries by picking as many as you can and freezing them to have berries throughout the year. Or purchase a bunch of berries when they go on sale at the supermarket. Look for brightly colored, firm berries that are slightly tart. Use the frozen berries in smoothies or as a topping for ice cream. There are a few ways to freeze your strawberries. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Colander
- Clean dish towel
- Paper towels
- Knife
- Blender
- Air-tight, freezer-safe plastic or glass containers
- Freezer-safe zip-top bags

Wash the strawberries under running water. Place them in a colander to drip dry or pat the strawberries dry with a clean cloth or paper towel.

Cut the tops off the strawberries.

Prepare the berries for freezing by slicing them, chopping them or even pureeing them in a blender. Preparation will depend on how you will use them after thawing. Freeze whole strawberries in a single layer on a cookie sheet.

Put the strawberries into freezer-safe, air-tight plastic or glass containers. Don't pack the containers completely full. Leave up 1/2 inch of space. Or put the strawberries into a freezer-safe zip-top bag. Just squeeze out as much air as possible before placing the bag in the freezer.

Keep the strawberries in the freezer for up to 10 to 12 months.

Tips & Warnings
Strawberries from the freezer will have a softer texture than fresh berries.
Strawberries can also be frozen with added sugar.
