How to Effectively Deliver an Acceptance Speech Before a Crowd
The prospect of an acceptance speech can make you feel nervous or uncertain about the proper behavior and etiquette you should display. The most effective acceptance speech is usually the one that is the most honest. This enables the crowd to appreciate the meaning the situation has to you, and allows you to show proper respect about its significance. Think carefully about what you'll say, and be prepared whether you know you're getting the opportunity to make the speech or not.

1
Memorize most of your speech in advance. Too many notes can make a speech seem overly prepared and dry. Instead, memorize the majority of your speech, and only refer to notes when there are specific facts or names you need to accurately convey. If you feel comfortable with it, leave some space for occasional improvisation, as this can make the speech seem more dynamic.

2
Show respect toward the award or position you're accepting. Acknowledge the significance of what you're receiving, as this demonstrates you take it seriously and value the decision of the people who selected you.
-
-
3
Give thanks to relevant people, especially those within the room. This will make you appear more modest and appreciative, especially if you were selected over other people who were nominated.
-
4
Deliver a few honest remarks about how the situation makes you feel. Let yourself expand upon or change what you've previously memorized to say, as the situation may inspire thoughts or feelings which you hadn't anticipated.
-
5
Use the opportunity to express your values. If there's a particular message or cause which you'd like to support, it's often appropriate to do so within your speech. For example: "And I'd like to give heartfelt thanks to all my friends at the local community center, who do such important work and really value any support people can give them."
-
6
Wrap up with a single, memorable message. Give your audience a final few words to remember your speech by. This can be a quote from an inspiring person or book.
