Replicate a pig using a basic origami technique.

Creating an origami pig face is a great craft project for young kids in the classroom, at animal-themed birthday parties, or at home on a rainy or cold day. It's fun and can serve as a tool to help teach children about these cute and fascinating farm animals. Origami may seem intimidating and difficult, but this pattern is very simple. It requires only one sheet of origami paper and a few basic folding techniques.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay the paper on a flat, hard surface colored side down. Turn it so that it's in a diamond-shaped orientation.

    • 2

Fold the paper in half vertically, bringing the left corner all the way to the right. Unfold it to create a crease line.

    • 3

Fold the paper in half horizontally, bringing the top corner to the bottom. You should now have an upside-down triangle.

    • 4

Fold up the bottom point of the top layer of the triangle upward, approximately 1/2 inch.

    • 5

Fold the little triangle you created in Step 4 upward again, approximately 1/2 inch. This serves as the snout.

    • 6

Fold the bottom tip of the second layer of the triangle upward. Fold it up just enough so that the tip of it can be tucked under the top layer. This forms the pig's mouth.

    • 7

Fold the left and right top corners of the triangle downward. Fold them down enough so that that the corners line up with the pig's mouth. This creates two floppy ears.

    • 8

Fold the points of the ears upward to make them stick up.

    • 9

Draw two eyes between the ears and two nostrils on the white, snout section to complete the pig.

Tips & Warnings

  • Attach string or elastic cord to the back of your origami pig face and pierce some holes in the eye area to turn it into a mask -- ideal for school plays or playing dress-up.
