How to Troubleshoot MDE Files
A MDE file is a Microsoft Access add-in file. This compressed archive stores MDA code, files and Access archives. However, many versions of Access come with a bug. When you try to open an MDE file, the program will freeze, occasionally making you restart the entire computer. This problem is so widespread that Microsoft offers a free fix. Installing this should solve your MDE file problems.

Go to Microsoft's Hotfix link.

Read and accept the license agreement.

Select your operating system, enter your email address and type in the letters in the picture.

Click "Request hotfix."

Check your email and clink the link within to download the MDE file fix.

Click "Run" at the pop-up window.

Click "Install" to install the MDE fix. Access cannot be running when you do this. You do not need to restart your computer. When the installation completes, MDE files will work.
