How to Sheet-rock a Barrel Vault
Drywall forms the walls of many different houses and buildings. Barrel vault ceilings are in archways and other areas of houses that don't have straight walls. These ceilings may seem like they can be very difficult to bend, but with the proper 1/4-inch thick drywall, you can install it on archways of a barrel vault. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Install drywall to all of the studs up the barrel vault until you reach the archway. Screw the 1/4-inch drywall to the studs with a power drill and drywall screws. Insert one screw every 8 inches along each stud up each side of the wall.

2
Lean the 1/4-inch piece of drywall that you'll install against the wall, with the paper backing facing out. Wet the backing of the drywall with a spray water bottle. Dampen the entire surface and let it soak in for 10 minutes.

Measure the length of the barrel vault and determine what size it needs to be cut to. Mark the cut location and score it with a utility knife to the proper size. Line up a T-square on the mark and score it with the knife. Measure the arch of the barrel vault and cut the sheet rock to the proper width in the same manner.

4
Place the drywall up into the arch of the barrel vault and push down firmly on the drywall. Continue bending it up into the arch and pressing it into the shape of the arch at every location. Push all the way around until the entire piece of drywall is formed into the arch.

5
Screw the drywall into place in the studs every 8 inches, just like the drywall was installed up the walls. Install all of the remaining pieces of drywall into the archway until the barrel vault is complete.
