How to Keep Zombies Out in "Minecraft"
"Minecraft" is an online world building game unlike the typical "sim," or simulated world games. Utilizing the basic block as a building component, you can create just about anything your imagination can conceive of. Watch out, however, as the game has it's pitfalls, such as monsters and zombies that come out at night. One of the first things you need to do is learn how to keep zombies out because, though you have unlimited lives in "Minecraft," you lose everything you are carrying with you when you die and have to get it all back again.

Gain the basic building tools you need to create a shelter and build structures. The first step is to chop down trees and collect the wood. At first you must do this with your hands.

Open the craft grid once you have collected wood. Do this by pressing the "i" key on your keyboard. Select the sticks you collected from your inventory and place them in the grid. Create planks. Now place the planks in the grid, and you will create a crafting box. This is a bench that expands your crafting grid and allows you to make a number of things.

Drag the crafting box to your hot bar at the bottom of the screen. These are your active tools or items you have collected.

Right-click the box and put it on the ground in front of you. Now right-click the box again and it opens a bigger craft grid. Use the sticks to create basic wooden tools. There are many variations of tools, you will need to consult a game guide online for which variations make which tools. The first three are a shovel, pickax and regular ax.

Use the new tools to chop down more trees and mine stone. Do this by digging into the ground until you find grey colored stones. You can use the stones to make stronger tools later.

Load all the materials you have collected into your hot bar. Use them by right-clicking the item. Once it is in your hand, you can put it anywhere. Stack wood or stone to create a shelter. You can also dig a shelter and put a wall up around the top. Use the crafting box to create a door that closes by finding the right configuration of materials on your gaming guide.

Get in the structure and close the door before dark falls. This is when the zombies come out. The shelter will always protect you from zombies as long as it is solid.

Use your imagination, game guide and look online for examples of how others have creatively trapped or gotten rid of zombies. You can build water trenches such as a moat. If it is at least six blocks deep, the zombies cannot climb out and will be trapped. Rivers of lava or even big dirt trenches can keep zombies out.

Build a large fortress with high walls and a door or gate you can keep closed around a large chunk of land or your compound. This means you can still be outside at night safely within your walls without the threat of zombies and don't have to cower in your shelter.
