Instructions

Use an electric shaver. Electric fabric shavers are ideal for removing pills from sweaters. To do this, lay the sweater flat and rub the electric shaver over the areas containing pilling. This will remove the pills; however, avoid areas with loose ends or snags.

Purchase a fine-toothed comb. Many fabric stores sell combs for these purposes which contain teeth that are around 1/8-inch long. Lay the sweater flat and briskly rub the comb over the sweater on the areas where pilling has occurred. Repeat this process until the pills are gone.

Try a lint roller. Normally, these small balls are hard to remove and must be pulled or cut off, but sometimes a lint roller will work. Rub a good-quality lint roller over the pills. This may remove them, or it might simply loosen them. If the pilling is not severe, pull the balls off the sweater after loosening them with the lint roller.

Use a single blade razor. Lay the sweater flat and carefully rub the razor over the pills. Use caution when doing this to avoid cutting yourself. Hold the fabric tight, and run the razor over the sweater in the same motion you would use to shave your legs. Do not rub too hard though, or you will cut the fabric. Periodically shake the sweater to remove the loose balls that you cut off or use a lint roller to pick them up.
