Make a drop-waist dress designed to fit your curves.

Create a drop-waist dress with a flouncy skirt from a close-fitting T-shirt and a yard or two or your favorite fabric. You can make the dress for a child or adult and customize the length of the dress to suit your preferences. Make a short and sexy dress to show off on your next girl's night out or give the dress a modest hemline to wear to a casual family gathering. Once the dress is completed, you can give it a little bit of extra flair with a ribbon sash around the waist, adorned with imitation gemstones.

Instructions

    • 1

Try on the close-fitting T-shirt. Measure the distance from the bottom of the hemline to the length you would like the dress. Add an extra inch to this measurement. Measure the circumference the hemline of the shirt and multiply this measurement by 2.

    • 2

Draw a rectangular shape on your choice of fabric for the skirt according to the measurements obtained in the previous step and then cut it out.

    • 3

Fold over one short side of the rectangle to the other, with the good sides facing inward. Sew along the rough edges to make a side seam for the skirt.

    • 4

Fold over one of the rough edges about 1/2-inch to make the hemline. Sew it in place with a straight stitch and then iron to flatten the folded edge.

    • 5

Sew a wide gathering stitch along the other rough edge of the skirt and then pull on the thread to gather the skirt to the circumference of the shirt's hemline. Iron the gathered edge of the fabric to lay the stitches flat.

    • 6

Turn the shirt and the skirt inside out. Slide the gathered, flattened edge of the skirt over top of the shirt's hemline. Pin the skirt to the shirt and sew around the skirt with a straight stitch to attach it to the shirt.
