How to Install a Frost-Free Outside Water Faucet
Frost-free outside water faucets allow you to use the faucet during the cold months of the year without having to fear that a water pipe will burst from the water inside freezing. The frost-free faucet has a long valve stem, which keeps the water inside the portion of the pipe that sits inside your insulated house, instead of outside where the temperatures dip below freezing. Removing your old faucet and installing a frost-free model requires at least two hours to successfully complete. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Turn the water valve on the old outside water faucet's line clockwise to shut off the water. Turn on the outside faucet to drain out all of the water left in the pipe.
-
2
Clamp a pipe wrench to the back of the old outdoor faucet while an assistant clamps a pipe wrench to the section of pipe inside the house you wish to keep. Turn the outdoor faucet counterclockwise, unthreading the section of water pipe you wish to remove from the section you wish to keep.

3
Use a masonry hole saw to enlarge the existing hole in the side of the house to accommodate the new faucet, if necessary. Insert the new faucet into the hole and use a marker to mark where the faucet's screw holes sit on the side of the house.
-
4
Remove the faucet from the hole and use a drill with a mason bit where you marked the side of the house. Insert screw anchors into the holes you drilled, apply silicone caulk to the back of the faucet's plate and slide it back into the hole in the side of the house.
-
5
Drive screws through the holes in the faucet's plate and through the plastic anchors in the side of the house. Wrap both pipes' threads clockwise with plumber's tape. Tighten the connection between the pipes using a pipe wrench, stopping once you feel resistance. Turn the shutoff valve's handle counterclockwise to restore the flow of water to the faucet.
