How to Make a Fiberglass Deadmau5 Helmet

Deadmau5 is a Canadian DJ and musician particularly know for his electronic and house music, as well as his crowd-pleasing stage costume. A large toy mouse head is the trademark of this influential DJ. Re-create this mouse helmet and please the crowds at all the parties. Things You'll Need

• Round balloon
• String
• Newspaper
• Paper-mache mix
• Craft knife
• Foam
• Craft glue
• Duck tape
• Fiberglass kit
• Sandpaper
• Gel coat kit
• Spray paint

Instructions

1. Blow up the balloon and tie a piece of string around the knot. Mix paper-mache paste, using 2 cups of wallpaper paste and 1 cup of water. Cut up strips of newspaper, dip it into the paper-mache mixture and apply eight to ten layers to the balloon. Hang the balloon by its string and leave overnight to dry.

2. Cut a neck hole in the base of the balloon. Draw a large mouth in the bottom center of the balloon and cut this shape out, using a craft knife. Take out any remaining balloon elastic. Cut out two large circular ears 2 inches larger than the diameter of the balloon head. Cut out two slim holes in the balloon to slot the ear pieces into. Use duck tape to stick the ears to the balloon head. Now you have the basic shape of the Deadmau5 helmet.

3. Cut the Styrofoam balls in half and glue each circle on either side of the head in parallel to the ears. Add a thin layer of foam in the opening of the mouth. This will complete the basic mask.

4. Pick up your fiberglass kit. Put on safety goggles and gloves. Make sure you are in a well-ventilated space. Using the fiberglass kit, apply a fiberglass layer to the exterior and interior of the mask. Cut the fiberglass cloth neatly and apply evenly across the mask. Repeat this action until you have created 4 or 5 layers. Wait a few hours for the fiberglass resin to dry.

5. Sand down the surfaces of the fiberglass to create a smooth edge. This will make it easier to apply the fiberglass gel to add a smooth and sleek touch to the design. Apply a layer of gel consistently across the exterior of the mask. Let is set to dry for 4 hours.

6. Hand-paint all the added details onto the mask. Pad the interior of the mask with foam to create a comfortable fit.
