Knit scarves are comfortable, fuzzy and cozy. They can also be a perfect compliment to any outfit. Sometimes these scarves can become frizzy and unravel if not cared for properly. In order to keep them looking great, just follow these simple steps.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Small tub
  • Clean white towel
  • Gentle detergent soap
  • Sink with faucet
Step1
Prepare the scarf for washing by gently picking off any loose items, such as food or dirt.
Step2
Fill a small tub or sink with warm water and a gentle detergent soap, then put the scarf in the water. Allow it to soak for 10 to 15 minutes.
Step3
Gently rub the material together after soaking to remove the ground-in dirt and grime. Be careful not to pull at the scarf; this can cause stretching or loosening of the material.
Step4
Remove the scarf from the water and lay it flat on one side of a clean white towel. Press down on the scarf until all the dirty water has been removed.
Step5
Run the scarf under cool water until the water drips clear. Place it flat on the dry side of the white towel using the same pressing motion to remove the excess water.
Step6
Lay the scarf on a dry, clean towel after all the water is removed and allow to air dry. Make sure you don't stretch it out in the process.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not wash or dry the scarf in a machine. This can cause tearing and stretching. Also, using a dryer can cause the scarf to shrink up quite drastically.

on 11/26/2006 Never rub wool - that's what helps make it "fuzzy", and never wring or twist it either when it is wet. Also, you can use shampoo to wash wool, after all wool is just hair. Make sure not to use too much soap when washing wool b/c sometimes the bubbles are hard to rinse out.
