How to Change the Radio Songs in "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas" With a Mod

The open-world sandbox style of the "Grand Theft Auto" games is designed to be open to interpretation. Every player approaches each mission and storyline however he chooses. As an extension of this, you can create your own in-game radio station that plays music tracks from your hard drive. It's one of the simplest mods you can perform and doesn't require any additional software.

Instructions

    • 1

Convert your music files into formats compatible with the game. MP3, WAV and WMA are supported by the Windows version, but the Mac edition does not support WMA. Collect the files you would like to add to your custom radio station, and open a Navigator or Finder window.

    • 2

Navigate to the custom station folder. In Windows, this is located in "\My Documents\GTA San Andreas User Files\User Tracks\." On a Mac, you will find it in "<user_name>/Documents/GTA3 User Files/User Tracks/." The songs must be placed directly into the folder; they cannot be read from sub-directories listing album and artist names.

    • 3

Launch the game as usual. Once it has started, open the options screen and select "Audio." Scroll down to "Scan Tracks" and click it. Allow the game to search the folder and cue up the imported tracks. Return to the game, and enter a car. Tune the radio using the left and right directional pad buttons to the station called "User Tracks." You should now be able to hear your own music.

Tips & Warnings

  • The Windows version of the game will support shortcuts. If all your music is stored in one directory, simply create a shortcut to that folder and place it in the custom tracks directory.
