How to Close Weaves With Thread

How to Close Weaves With Thread thumbnail
The ends of a weave should be closed with thread to hold the weave together.

Weaving threads can be done with a loom or by hand, but you will need to close the thread weaves to keep them from unraveling. You can use thread to tie the weaves together at the ends to close them off to keep the weaves from unraveling. You also have the option of cutting off the excess thread if you don't want it to be longer than the woven area that you close with thread.

Instructions

Complete the hand or loom weave that you are working on and secure the end with a temporary clip or on the loom so that the weave does not come unraveled. Secure the ends of all your weaves with temporary clip fasteners so you can ensure that the thread weaves are all even before you permanently close them.

Close each thread weave by tying a tight knot using the remaining thread that has been woven. If each thread weave is a common three-thread braid, tie two of the ends in an over-under double knot. Then use the threads from those tied strands to tie another double knot with the other strand. Complete this tying-off process with the threads from each weave.

Use scissors to cut off the excess thread from each weave that you have closed off. Cut as close to the knots as possible, unless you want to leave a little fringe to style the ends of your weaves.
