1
Determine the placement for the porch railing's posts. The placement will vary according to the style of your railing. Read the manufacturer's directions to find out the appropriate placement for your specific railing.
-
2
Place a mark on the brick to indicate where each post will be installed. Center a surface mounting flange over each mark. Some railing kits come with the mounting flanges and some require you to purchase them separately. Hold a level against the mounting flanges to make sure they sit straight up and down. Use shims to level them, if necessary.

Mark one screw hole in the mounting flange's base, with a piece of chalk, and set the mounting flange aside. Drill a pilot hole, with a 5/32-inch drill bit, through the mark. Center the mounting flange's screw hole over the pilot hole.

4
Drive a 1-inch stainless steel concrete screw through the pilot hole to hold the mounting flange in place. Drill 5/32-inch pilot holes through the three remaining screw holes, then drive 1-inch stainless steel concrete screws through them. Repeat with the remaining surface mounting flanges.

5
Slide the porch railing's posts over the surface mounting flanges. If your posts come with post skirts, slide the post skirts over the posts. Finish assembling your porch railing according to the manufacturer's directions.
