How to Attach Oatmeal Containers to a Cardboard Box Castle
Many school-aged children are instructed to create a cardboard castle for a history project. This sometimes dreaded task is less expensive for the parents who gather supplies from around the home, including empty oatmeal containers. The circular containers are used to create defensive or decorative towers for the castle. Attaching the oatmeal containers to the castle correctly will ensure that your child's project makes it to school in one piece.

1
Paint or cover the oatmeal cartons with newspaper or construction paper. Use glue or tape to adhere the paper to the outside of the oatmeal carton.
-
2
Plan the design of your castle. Depending upon the time period, country or style of castle, the oatmeal container towers will be on the base or upper levels of the castle.

3
Turn the oatmeal container over and apply a thin layer of white glue to the container's base with your finger or a toothpick, if the design calls for the container to be glued on top of something, such as the castle's base or on top of another cardboard box. Do not use too much glue as it will seep out the sides and sully the finished product.

4
Allow the glue to sit for three minutes to become tacky before setting the oatmeal container into place. Set a book on top of the oatmeal container to help the glue set. Allow the container to dry for at least three to four hours before removing the book.
