How to Enlarge Text for the Vision-Impaired

Microsoft designed Windows 7 with the capacity to accommodate vision-impaired users and help them see text and objects on the screen. If you have trouble reading text, you can change your Windows settings to enlarge the font size up to 200 percent to double the font size. If that's not enough, most programs recognize Windows' zoom feature, which allows you to increase font sizes using the scroll wheel on your mouse.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the Windows "Start" button and select "Control Panel."

    • 2

Click "Appearance and Personalization" and select "Make text and other items larger or smaller" from the "Display" section.

    • 3

Click "Set Custom Text Size (DPI)" from the left pane.

    • 4

Click the drop-down menu and select the size percentage you prefer. For the largest increase, select "200%."

    • 5

Click "OK" to close the window.

    • 6

Click "Apply" and then "Log off now" to log out of Windows.

    • 7

Log back into Windows to see the larger font sizes.

    • 8

Hold the "Ctrl" key and move your mouse wheel's scroll button forward to increase text size for individual programs.
