When it comes to comparing the most advanced technologies available in TVs, it is often confusing. Many brands are available in various stores and every brand has its unique specifications. Choosing the right specifications that will meet your needs can be tricky. The following steps can guide you in making your decision.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Decide on the size of screen you want to have. Plasma TVs come in sizes ranging from 32 inches up to 63 inches while the LCDs screens have a limitation of 13 inches up to 45 inches.
Step2
Identify the spot in your house where you want to keep your plasma TV or LCD. If the room is quite large and necessitates a wide viewing angle, then LCD may be a better choice. It has a larger viewing angle of 175 degrees compared to Plasma, which has 160 degrees.
Step3
Plan your usage and duration. If you plan to buy your TV for long term usage, then remember the viewing quality deteriorates faster in Plasma than in LCD. The Plasma TVs are subject to frequent burn-ins due to static images and often after-image ghosts are formed. Moreover, Plasma TVs have higher brightness and contrast levels when compared with LCDs.
Step4
Consider the portability factor. Ask yourself how often you will move your TV. Plasma TVs are heavier than LCDs and require additional support for mounting. The minimum thickness available for Plasma is 3 inches, while LCDs begin with 2 inches. Regarding durability, LCDs are less fragile in relation to Plasma TVs.
Step5
Determine the geographic location of where the TV will reside. If your house is located at a higher altitude, the gas held in each pixel of the Plasma TV is stressed, causing an adverse effect on the visual display. On the other hand, LCD is reliable at any altitude.
Step6
Ensure that the installation for a Plasma TV is done by a professional. With LCDs, installation is easy and user-friendly.

Tips & Warnings

  • Conduct a thorough investigation into both products. Though non-branded products cost less, they may not be reliable.
  • Ask for customer service centers. You may require it at some point in time.
  • Keep the area surrounding the Plasma or LCD TV clean and dust-free.
