How to Crop a Song on Audacity

Whether you want to create a custom ringtone or revise a personal recording, you can use Audacity to edit a digital audio file, such as a WAV, WMA or MP3. If you're unfamiliar with audio-editing software, however, the process of cropping a song can be overwhelming. Fortunately, Audacity includes a user-friendly interface that allows you to remove specific sections of your song in just a few steps.

      Click the "File" tab in Audacity, select "Open" and import the audio file you want to edit. The song will appear in the waveform screen, and the selection tool will be activated automatically. The selection tool allows you to crop an audio file.

      Click and drag your mouse to the left or right to select the song portion you want to remove. Your selection will be highlighted on the waveform screen.

      Click the "Edit" tab and select the "Cut" option. The highlighted clip will be deleted from the song.
