How to Wash a Duvet Cover
A duvet cover is a cost-effective alternative to changing or updating the color or design of your bedding more often, while keeping it clean and fresh. It can be used to cover your existing colorful, patterned comforter or to cover a neutral down comforter. Either way, it changes the decorating scheme of your room. To make sure your duvet cover has a long and happy life, care for it properly.

1
Read the care label. If the duvet is dry clean only, take it to your dry cleaners! Washing a dry clean-only duvet can result in shrinkage, and it may no longer fit over your existing comforter.

2
Pre-treat any stains if the duvet cover is washable. Spray the stain with stain remover and let it sit for five to 10 minutes. This allows the stain remover to soak into the fabric. Let it sit for a longer period of time if the area is badly stained, but do not allow the pre-treatment spray to dry.

Proceed with washing. Place the duvet cover inside the washing machine. Be sure to distribute its weight evenly; large, single-item loads can become off-balance during the spin cycle. If this happens, open the lid to the washing machine and re-distribute the fabric. Pour in the washing detergent. Set the machine on a warm-water cycle.

Check for stains after washing. If stains are still present, repeat steps 2 and 3. After stains are fully removed, place duvet cover in dryer. Add dryer sheets for a fresh, clean smell. Dry the duvet cover on the lowest heat setting. This may necessitate several drying cycles but protects the duvet cover's color. Once it is completely dry, take it out and place your comforter inside.

Tips & Warnings
Daniadown, a bedding manufacturer, recommends washing your duvet cover every time you wash your sheets.
Make sure your washer is big enough to hold your duvet cover. Some queen and king size duvet covers are too large for normal-sized washers. If your washer is too small, go to your local laundromat and wash the duvet cover there.
Add a few tennis balls to the dryer with your duvet cover to help it dry faster.
