How to Troubleshoot QBasic
QuickBasic, or QBasic for short, is a variant of the popular and widely used BASIC programming language. Computer enthusiasts can use the QBasic language to play games on their computers. Many games are based on this programming language. At times you may experience problems with QBasic games. It's best to take a step-by-step approach to resolve any QBasic issues.

Click "Start" and choose "Run" from the list of options. Type "cmd" in the box and click "OK" to open a DOS prompt. Type "C:\QBASIC\SBMIDI.exe" and press return.

Open Device Manager by clicking "Start," choosing "Control Panel" and double-clicking the "System" icon. Click "Hardware" and then "Device Manager." Expand the plus sign next to "Sound Cards" and check for an exclamation point or question mark next to the card. Right-click the card and choose "Update driver" if the card is not functioning properly.

Right-click the speaker icon in the system tray at the lower right hand corner of the screen and choose "Volume." Adjust the volume as high as it will go and try the game again.
File Problems

Click "Start" and choose "Run" from the menu. Type "QB.exe /L" to run the program in library mode. This should fix most issues with call errors.

Copy the QB.exe or QBASIC.exe file to another directory. Open the program and click "Options" and then "Configuration." Set the path to the directory where you copied the QB.exe or QBASIC.exe file.

Click "Start" and choose "Run," then type "cmd" and click "OK" to open a DOS window. Type "COPY C:\Dir\*.* C:\QBASIC" where Dir is the name of the directory currently housing the QBasic files. This copies all the files in that directory to the QBASIC folder.
