How to Plan a Perfect Pair Themed Engagement Party

Etiquette books say the bride’s family usually hosts the engagement party, but today’s wedding bandits are spreading the word that the woman of the hours’ folks aren’t the only ones ready to step up and fete the happy couple.

Thrown in a restaurant or home, the idea is to celebrate the big news in a style that makes the happy couple feel like a billion....Enter “The Perfect Pair” themed engagement party.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Table, jiggers, framed print-out of ingredients, pear schnapps, champagne, champagne glasses
  • Pears (lots of them), bowls, boxes
  • Food and beverage
  • Note cards, printer

    Invitation

  1. Step 1

    Cruise through stationary stores (on or offline) and snag some cards that can be printed from your home computer.

  2. Step 2

    Use snappy text to set the tone and lay out the necessary details: date, time, location, dress, RSVP, etc.

    Batman and Robin,Yin and Yang, Peanut Butter and Jelly….
    These perfect pairs have some company, Julia and Adam, are engaged
    and we’re celebrating the dynamic due on Saturday, September 23rd.

  3. Decor

  4. Step 1

    Venture out to a farmer’s market, wholesale fruit district, or warehouse store and load up on pears (all different varieties including miniature).

  5. Step 2

    Stack them in bowls to use as centerpieces.

  6. Step 3

    Creatively box them up for give as party favors.

  7. Step 4

    Line them symmetrically on square platters for accents throughout the party space.

  9. Step 1

    Turn to famous cuisine pairings for inspiration.

  10. Step 2

    Proscuitto and Melon
    Surf and Turf
    Iceberg and Blue cheese
    Cake and Ice Cream

  11. Signature Cocktail

  12. Step 1

    Pear Schnapps and Champagne: Pour 1 oz. pear schnapps into the bottom of a champagne flute, top with champagne (or sparkling wine) and serve.

  13. Step 2

    Promote mingling and interaction by setting the bar up as self service.

  14. Step 3

    Print and frame the recipe for the signature cocktail, set out champagne flutes, jiggers and the ingredients for the cocktail.

  15. Step 4

    Keep the rest of the bar menu simple and self service as well.

    Think: Bottles of beer, water and sodas along with red/white wine.

    Leave preprinted cards and pens on each table. Ask guests to write down as many things that come in pairs as they can. The person with the most wins a pair of earrings or cufflinks.
