Throw a Karaoke Party

Hankering for high-octane hijinx, green M&M's and panties flying at the stage? Want sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll, minus the smashed television sets and perp walk? If you feel the need to be loud and legal, then by all means crank up the amps and watch your friends go "American Idol" on you. It's America's greatest spectator sport. Here are the ingredients for a karaoke party to rival a record-label showcase.

    Instructions

    Things You'll Need

    • Flokati rug and Klieg lighting
    • Standing floor screen
    • Panties
    • Clear glass jar and guitar picks
    • Bic lighters
    • Snacks and booze
    • A Karaoke machine with microphone and speakers
    • Percussion instruments like tambourines, maracas, bongos
    • Music magazines
    • Green, red or amber lightbulbs
    • Security jackets or t-shirts
    • Fashion accessories like temporary tattoos, scarves, sunglasses, T-shirts
      • 1

Invite fans of all musical genres, because diversity is the secret (and necessary) ingredient for wild times.

      • 2

Make sure everyone gets past the velvet rope by sending an All-Access backstage pass as the invitation. Make up a name for your garage band headliner and include the vital tour stats (date, time, location, activities, dress). Roll down to Kinko's to laminate them, punch a hole in the top and attach a lanyard (found at office supply stores).

      • 3

Decorate: The inspiration for atmosphere is all about the backstage vibe. Create a greenroom space with a floor screen for ultimate privacy and lounging. Set up a dressing room with fashion accessories for on-stage performances, including temporary tattoos, rockin' T-shirts, scarves, sunglasses, belts and makeup to get the inner-rock star juices flowing.

      • 4

Define the stage with a Flokati rug and Klieg lighting if you want to go all out. Set-up the karaoke machine, microphone and speakers.

      • 5

Lay out percussion instruments like tambourines, maracas and bongos.

      • 6

Give audience members Bic lighters and panties to throw on stage for encores.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Make snack cones out of paper for the chips, pretzels or whatever else rocks your world. Search for images online. Look for skull and crossbones, band logos and the like. Format them to wallpaper, print, roll, tape, and fill with snacks.

    • For a little extra entertainment, fill a clear glass jar with guitar picks and invite guests to try to guess how many there are. Give a prize to the winner, like real concert tickets, a faux Grammy award (found at trophy stores) or a rock 'n' roll belt buckle.

    • Serve iconic finger foods like mini burgers, pizza, herbed chips, nuts, and, of course, the famous green M&M's. Include a salad or fresh fruit for the Woodstock fans out there.

    • Hit the local newsstand for music magazines like "Rolling Stone" and "Spin" to ****ter around the seating area. Swap out regular white light bulbs for green, red and amber versions.

    • In case things get out of hand, have a few "Security" jackets and T-shirts on hand for friends to put on and start regulating the crowd.
