Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Start by identifying how many hours you would use TiVo. You can compare different TiVo models based on the recording hours offered by various models. Some offer 40 hours of recording time, some 80, whereas some as much as 180 hours of recording time.
Step2
Compare models based on their recording features. Different models offer different sets of features. Do you need to record two shows simultaneously? Some models have the ability to record two basic cable channels, or one basic cable and one digital cable channel, at once.
Step3
Compare models based on their appearance. The Series2 DT DVR has a glossy black center section and real brushed aluminum surround, compared to the stark white appearance of the standard Series2 DVR.
Step4
Compare on the basis of hardware requirement. The Series2 DT DVR can work with an Ethernet cable (sold separately) or a USB network adapter (also sold separately), whereas Series2 DVR works only with a compatible USB network adapter.
Step5
Compare models based on their pricing. The 180-hour TiVo Series2 DT DVR has an understandably higher price for the box than the 80-hour TiVo Series2 DT DVR. The HUMAX 40-hour DVD Recorder with TiVo has a much higher price tag, but also provides several additional features.
