Block emails from any contact by adding her to Hotmail's Blocked Senders list.

Blocking a contact on an instant messaging service or chat application does not stop him from sending emails if he also knows your Windows Live Hotmail address. The Web-based Windows Live Hotmail service includes advanced junk email and spam filters, and you can use this tool to automatically remove all emails from the blocked contact so that you don't have to read them or even see them in your Hotmail inbox.

Instructions

    • 1

Log into your Windows Live Hotmail account.

    • 2

Click the "Options" button in the top-right corner of the page. Choose "More Options" from the drop-down menu. This opens the Hotmail Options page.

    • 3

Click the "Safe and Blocked Senders" link in the Preventing Junk Email section. Choose "Blocked Senders" from the settings options.

    • 4

Type the email address of the contact you want to block into the input box. Click the "Add to List" button. This adds the contact to the Blocked Senders list, and Hotmail now automatically deletes all mail messages from this sender.

    • 5

Click "Go to Inbox" in the left navigation menu to exit the Options menu and return to your Hotmail email inbox.

Tips & Warnings

  • Hotmail also allows you to add an email sender to the blocked list from the email inbox. Do this by clicking the check box beside any email message received from the contact and selecting "Junk" from the main Hotmail menu.

  • Always report abusive or threatening emails to the sender's Internet service provider or email service. Find out how to report abuse by visiting the support section of the provider's website.
