How to Apply Foil and Rhinestones on T-Shirts
Make T-shirts for the new bride, new mom, graduate or just because. Creating a one-of-a-kind T-shirt for yourself or as a gift for a friend can be fun and rewarding. There are several ways to design T-shirts. Apply rhinestones and designs using ink on foil to T-shirts that add a sparkly, girly look and make a statement. Designs can include floral, beaches, mountains and people. Another idea is to add sayings, such as "I am a new mom," "Class of 2012," "I'm with him," or "I always have the last word."

1
Create the foil design yourself or have a professional make it. Print on the dull side of the foil with water-based inks. People sometimes create foil designs on their home computer and printer, but printer ink is not made for fabrics. They will also fade with every wash.
-
2
Lay a clean T-shirt flat on a heat press heated to 350 degrees.
-
-
3
Place the foil on the shirt with the design facing the T-shirt and the shiny side of the foil facing up. Cover the foil with a sheet of parchment paper or a Teflon sheet.
-
4
Press the T-shirt for 10 to 15 seconds. Alternatively, use an iron, and press onto the fabric for a few minutes to get the desired results. Use a heat press when possible, even if you need to take the shirt somewhere to do the transfer.
-
5
Allow garment and the foil to cool and then carefully peel foil away from the T-shirt.
-
6
Attach rhinestones. There are three different ways to attach rhinestones to fabric: sew them, glue them or use a rhinestone gun purchased from a craft store. Be creative and use a variety of colors, both in and around the foil design. If gluing rhinestones onto the T-shirt, use fabric glue. Add a dab of hot glue to rhinestones that were attached with the gun or by sewing to help keep them in place.
