How to Make Tie-Dye Fabrics With Permanent Felt Markers for Gifts
Handmade gifts are often the most cherished since they represent thoughtfulness and one-of-a-kind craftsmanship. If you're unsure what to give someone, you can tie-dye a shirt, pair of socks, or any other fabric using permanent markers. It's certainly a lot easier to clean up than the traditional method of tie-dying and it can certainly come in handy when you're working on the project at the last minute.

1
Pick out a gift item that's made from white cotton or canvas fabric. Some ideas include tank tops, bandanas, T-shirts, socks, or shorts. If you're short on time, smaller items dry more quickly than larger ones.
-
2
Roll or bunch up the garment you're using. It doesn't have to be neatly done. Take a rubber band and wrap it around different sections, about an inch apart. Any garment the size of a sock or smaller should be bunched every 1 1/2 or 2 inches to keep the colors from bleeding into each other.

Use permanent felt markers to scribble on the bunched fabric. Pick out one, two, or three colors and scribble each different color near a different rubber band. Using more than three colors could result in a tie-dye job that's murky, making it difficult to distinguish one color from another.
-
4
Fill an empty spray bottle about halfway with rubbing alcohol. Spray the bunched-up garment all over until it's damp. Let the color set for 20 minutes and remove the rubber bands.
-
5
Allow the fabric to dry completely and place it in a clothes dryer. Tumble dry on medium high heat to get the wrinkles out. Add your own gift wrapping to complete the project.
