How to Make Your Own Propeller Cap
Whether you're fashioning a Halloween costume or if you simply want to try a new look, propeller caps can be both hilarious and unforgettable. You can wear them with a collared shirt and suspenders for a geek chic look. Or you can add a propeller to your favorite sports team cap to create your very own fan gear. Either way, it only takes a few supplies to create a propeller hat that you can wear again and again.
Things You'll Need
- Old baseball cap

1
Pick out an old baseball cap that you'll use for the project. Classic propeller hats are quite colorful, but you can choose any hat you like.
-
2
Remove the rivet in the center of the baseball cap. Using small sewing scissors will help you remove the threads and keep you from making a hole that's too big. Once you've removed the rivet, use a paper hole punch to make a hole in the center of the hat. This is where you'll insert the propeller.

3
Purchase a plastic propeller from a craft store that sells items for model airplanes. You'll find one that looks authentic and you can choose any sized propeller that you like.
-
4
Cut a piece of craft wire that measures six inches long and fold the wire in half. Wrap the center point around the center of the propeller and then twist the remainder of the craft wire so that it's wrapped tightly around the propeller.

5
Stick the twisted length of the craft wire through the hole in the center of the hat and pull it through until the propeller sits comfortably on top of the hole.
-
6
Use duct tape to secure the wire to the inside of the hat. A few layers of the tape should help the wire lay flat and keep it from poking you in the head when you're wearing the cap.

Tips & Warnings
For an authentic looking propeller cap, you don't have to remove the hat's visor. Instead, just wear the cap backwards.
