How to Close a Scrunchie Crochet

Close a scrunchie with the same yarn used to crochet the scrunchie.

Crocheted scrunchies are quick and easy projects that require only small amounts of yarn and only a matter of minutes to complete. Scrunchies make simple gifts for women and girls, especially because they can be made quickly in colors and styles that are personalized to the recipient. The trickiest part of completing a crocheted scrunchie is closing the seam. Slip stitch is the best method for closing a scrunchie's seam because it is sturdy and not too visible once the seam is completed.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold the two edges of the scrunchie together with the right sides facing each other. Line up the stitches from each edge so that one stitch on the first edge directly corresponds to one stitch on the second edge.

    • 2

Tie a slip knot near the end of the same yarn you used to crochet the scrunchie. Place the slip knot on the crochet hook, just below the hook's tip. Use the same size hook used to crochet the scrunchie.

    • 3

Slide the hook through one stitch from both edges, making sure the hook is going through two corresponding stitches.

    • 4

Wrap the yarn around the hook's tip, drawing it from the back of the hook to the front of the hook.

    • 5

Pull the hook through both stitches currently on the hook. You've completed one slip stitch.

    • 6

Make one slip stitch through each pair of corresponding stitches along the edges of the scrunchie, creating a seam.

    • 7

Cut the yarn, leaving a tail of at least four inches. Thread the tail through the yarn needle, and draw the tail through a few stitches close to the seam you just created. Clip any excess yarn.
